Villa Margaret is a delightful residence that instantly appeals. Situated off a quiet rural track, with only 2 well-screened neighbouring houses, and surrounded by picturesque woodland comprising pine, carob and olive trees, this is a holiday home that will charm lovers of both nature and tranquillity alike. Impressive views to the majestic White Mountains in the south, and the sparkling sea in the north, complete this restful setting. Despite the peace and privacy, this lovely property is only 300m from the well stocked village store in the traditional hamlet of Xirosterni, 3km from the tavernas and amenities in the quaint villages of Vamos and Gavalohori, and only 6km from Almyrida’s sandy beaches and crystal clear sea.
Superbly appointed on the top floor, the roomy open-plan living/dining/kitchen area takes full advantage of the striking views. This L-shaped living room is warm and inviting with a large and comfy corner couch, cushions and curtains - all made from colourful earth-toned fabrics. The contemporary kitchen is equipped with every possible appliance, and the modern upstairs shower room is fully tiled. The clever design of the villa ensures that your living area extends to the outdoors with wide doors and windows opening out onto a number of balconies and terraces, with a choice of sun or shade, and magnificent views. The front top floor, sea facing, pergola covered balcony is fully furnished with a wooden lounge set, and a dining table and chairs for al-fresco dining. Convenient and easy access from the top floor of the villa to the pool terrace, adjacent barbeque area, and pretty garden is provided by an external staircase..
Villa Margarets three bedrooms are located on the ground floor which helps to keep them cooler during the long, hot summer season. The 2 double bedrooms both have wide sliding doors which open out onto a shared covered terrace that overlooks the pool and garden. Every modern comfort has been provided at the villa including free WIFI internet access, independent air conditioning throughout (in addition to the ceiling fans in the bedrooms), insect screens, aluminium doors, windows and shutters, water heated by solar panel and immersion heater, a wood burning stove, central heating, a Plasma TV, a DVD player, a CD player, a satellite TV box, an I-pod/I-phone docking station, and a selection of family board games.
Vying for attention with the comfortable villa are the extensive, fenced and gated grounds which include a vibrant garden, an orchard, a barbeque area, and a larger than average private pool that has a Roman end with steps that make it easy to get in and out of. Whether you wish to swim, barbeque, potter around the 4000m2 plot, or simply relax with a good book and a cool drink under the shade of a tree, the attractive garden provides the perfect setting in which to do so.
The pool terrace and the area immediately surrounding the villa has been paved with terracotta tiles and then surrounded with low hedges, natural stone walls, and flowerbeds with colourful and aromatic flowers and shrubs including hibiscus, gaura, roses, bottle brush, pampas grass, palms, geraniums, wisteria and jasmine. The orchard has been planted with a wonderful selection of apple, orange, pear, lemon, tangerine, pomegranate fig, as well as a lone walnut tree. Oleanders line the outer edges of the plot and the remainder of the large garden has been left in its natural state with rocky outcrops interspersed with wild almond trees and an infusion of glorious wild flowers in the Spring time that includes lupins and poppies. The front driveway is gravelled and leads to private parking area that is partially shaded by some of the villa's 14 olive trees. Because the majority of the grounds cannot be overlooked, couples or families searching for a private, comfortable retreat, with views and easy access to local amenities, will find Villa Margaret to be the answer to their prayers.

Xirosterni is a sleepy hamlet with a village centre which comprises a cluster of stone houses, a well-stocked village store, and a kafenion. The village is famous for its lively street festival on August 5th, to which everyone is invited. Just under 3 kilometres away is Vamos, which is a very pretty village and its narrow streets and stone houses make an ideal starting point for hikes to the surrounding hills. To the south-east of the village, in the Karydi area, one can see the monastery of Agios Giorgos. The ruins of the church’s cells and the old oil-press, with its wonderful domes, remain standing to the present day. Vamos has a large number of amenities including a bank, ATM, 2 petrol stations, 3 tavernas, 2 souvlaki shops, a handful of cafes, a bakery, a hairdresser, and a number of gift shops and mini-markets. Xirosterni is also a short 5 minute drive from the traditional village of Gavalohori. Five hundred metres from the village, you can see several renowned Venetian wells built on a landscape of rare beauty. In Gavalohori there are 4 excellent tavernas, a bakery, a well stocked mini market, a lovely folklore museum and a women’s co-operative which has developed the fine art of handicrafts such as knitting, embroidery and lace making. The lovely seaside village of Almyrida is a 10 minute drive away, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 11 tavernas, 7 cafés, 2 bars, 2 bakeries, a jewellery shop, 4 mini-markets, 7 gift shops, a pharmacy, a butcher, an off-license, a fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, a hairdressers, a nail spa, 2 clothes shops, 3 real estate offices, and a 24 hour kiosk. Also in Almyrida there is Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, private boat hire, boat trips, big game fishing, waterskiing, private sightseeing flights in a light aircraft, horse riding, and guided walking tours and coach excursions. Finally there is a scuba diving office, pedalo rentals, table tennis, paddle boarding, a space with pool tables and games machines, a children's play centre which offers babysitting, and a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers, kayaks, catamarans, and mountain bikes. Because of its central location, Villa Margaret is also only a 15 minute drive from the bustling seaside town of Georgioupolis which, apart from its 9 kilometre long beach, fresh-water fed bay, and lively fishing port, also boasts night clubs, bars, and many supermarkets, souvenir shops and amenities. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio and lace making in Gavalohori. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic Venetian town of Chania is only 50 minutes away by car.
