*** Since the accompanying photos were taken all of the shower units have had a glass door added, a pergola has been put over the roof terrace and a table, a couch, and benches with cushions have been installed, dressing tables and chairs have been added to 2 of the bedrooms, and the barbeque has been relocated to near the garden table under the grapevines. From August 2024 - Spring 2025 the new owner will be undertaking a complete renovation which will transform the villa into a 5 bedroom property with a gym and many new features.

Villa Azure is an impressive modern villa with a large 52m2 infinity pool set on a hillside terrace in what we believe to be the most attractive and private location in the Chania area. As the name suggests, Villa Azure has outstanding views over the sparkling blue seas of Souda Bay to the north, and rich green valleys of olive trees and vineyards to the spectacular White Mountains in the south. Tucked away at the end of an unmade road, and hidden by olive, cypress and pine trees, Villa Azure is ideal for those seeking a beautiful hideaway that is nevertheless only a short distance from the sandy beaches, waterfront tavernas, and many amenities that the pretty seaside resorts of Almyrida and Kalives have to offer.

The thoughtful owners, a Greek-American family living in Singapore, have designed Villa Azure in order to incorporate modern facilities and comforts with traditional Cretan building materials such as local cypress wood for the high vaulted living room ceiling and outside pergolas, marble for the poolside bar, fireplace, and window ledges, and the beautiful creamy stone that comes from the nearby village of Gavalohori which has been used for the kitchen archway, columns, barbeque area, boundary walls, and flag stone paving. The villa’s main living area has a modern and attractive open plan layout that stays cool in the summer and takes full advantage of the sea breezes and wonderful sea and mountain views. Villa Azure has the comfortable feel of a well-equipped and very spacious home. In order to ensure total peace and privacy for each guest, none of the bedrooms share adjoining walls but every bedroom does have its own fully tiled en-suite shower room and air-conditioning unit. For the cooler nights at the start and end of the season, the a/c units also double up as heaters and there is under floor heating and a fireplace.

The majority of the villa is set on one level with only the games room / 5th sleeping area on the lower level, Villa Azure is incredibly versatile and absolutely ideal for everyone, from the elderly and less abled, to romantic couples, and large families or groups of varying ages. Parents can enjoy some quiet time whilst children and teenagers amuse themselves in the games room and separate lounge area which has couches, a 42 inch flat screen TV, a DVD player, surround sound system, a CD player, a play station, a table football, a ping pong table, and a selection of DVD’s, play station games, card games and books. Two single beds are also located on the lower level for additional guests. Originally planned as a full-time home for the owners, the villa’s many modern comforts include free WIFI internet access, a fully fitted, very well equipped kitchen which includes stainless steel appliances such as: a ceramic hob, a built-in oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher; a separate utility room with washing machine and an iron and ironing board; a hair dryer, ceiling fans, mosquito screens, white aluminium doors, window frames, and shutters. The water is heated either by solar panel or a back-up immersion heater.

Despite the light and airy interiors, Villa Azure’s guests will spend the majority of their holiday relaxing on the outdoor terraces, all of which enjoy gorgeous, uninterrupted views. Special emphasis has been has been paid to the pool terrace and dining terrace where you can chill out on a sun-lounger or dine al-fresco in total privacy, with a choice of sun or shade. The 12m x 5m pool has an infinity edge that looks down the valley of olive groves and vineyards to the White Mountains and Souda Bay. The pool also features an unusual swim-up marble counter top bar with in-pool stools and a sunken bar serving area with a sink – perfect for a long, cool drink at anytime!  Pool heating via heat pump in 2024 is available in April, May, June, September, and October for an extra surcharge of €280.00 Euros per week (payable in cash to the house manager upon arrival), (conditions apply). For those food lovers amongst you, close to the pool is the stone barbeque, and forno (traditional oven), and the pergola covered dining area which has been furnished with a beech wood table with a pretty cream and beige marble top and 12 comfortable dining chairs. Three sets of extra wide double sliding doors lead out to the dining terrace from the living area and kitchen. An outside staircase leads up to the roof terrace which has sun at all hours of the day which provides for sheltered sunbathing from the occasional early / end of season winds. There is a pergola for shade if required, and a lounge suite, making it the ideal vantage point for watching the fantastic sunsets, the lights twinkling from the Akrotiri peninsula, and the evening ferry passing by on its way to Athens.

Set in private gardens which are romantically lit at night and bordered by grass, natural stone walls and olive trees. Flowerbeds around the property are planted with oleander, Washingtonian palms, bougainvillea, gardenia, birds of paradise and citrus trees. A hammock hangs in the shade between 2 olive trees and is the perfect place from which to relax whilst watching the children play on the adjacent grassy lawn. A gated driveway connects to green, hilly countryside with a network of small tracks that are idyllic for walkers. All in all, this enchanting villa is an impressive escape for those seeking privacy and seclusion, breathtaking views, and easy access to a wide choice of sites and amenities.

Villa Location

The beach at Kera 1.85km on the main dirt road from the villa, but much less as the crow flies. It is a quiet cove like beach with a simple kantina for food and drinks but no sun-beds or umbrellas. The water is shallow and there is a choice of pebbles or sand. The lovely village of Almyrida is 2.8km from Villa Azure, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 11 excellent tavernas, 2 pizzeria/pasta restaurants,  5 cafés, 1 bar, 2 bakeries/coffee shops, 1 Italian ice cream shop, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 7 gift shops, a ladies clothes shop, an off-license, a pharmacy,  a nail spa, a hair dresser, and 4 real estate offices.  Also in Almyrida there are pedalo and paddle board rentals, scuba diving centre, and a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans.  We at Villas Crete Holidays will give you tourist information, and details of private boat rental, boat trips, big game fishing, horse riding, private sight seeing flights in a light aircraft,  and guided walking and coach excursions.  The village of Kalives is 3km away and has long been a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort that has many amenities but is far removed from brash tourism. Kalives stretches along 4 kilometres of sandy beaches, and the narrow main street is lined with old white washed houses. Two rivers run join the sea at Kalives, and there is a traditional fishing boat harbour at the eastern end of the village. There is an abundance of excellent tavernas and cafes lining the seafront, and there are shops of every description. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio a folklore museum in Gavalohori. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 30 minutes away by car.

*** As of January 01, 2024, the Greek government have replaced the old “bed tax” with a new tax that is applied to all stays in short-term rental accommodation in Greece. The Climate Resilience Levy is a response to the devastating forest fires and floods that Greece has experienced in recent years, with the government hoping to generate extra funding that will go towards financing reconstruction, supporting victims, and increasing the country’s defences against future natural disasters.

The owners of all short-term rental accommodation are legally obliged to collect the Climate Resilience Levy as a separate tax for all overnight stays (per villa) as follows:
€10.00 per night on stays between March 01 and October 31, and €4.00 per night on stays between November 01 and February 28/29.

We will collect the Climate Levy with your final balance payment and it will be clearly itemised on your Booking Confirmation.

Whilst we understand the potential budget concerns of our guests, this tax/levy is beyond our control and we encourage our guests to see this as a way of contributing to the protection of the planet and the beautiful area where they are holidaying.
