Set within 4000m2 of gated grounds, Villa Alexandria is a rare jewel that has a privileged and peaceful hillside location, flanked by silver and green olive groves and with exquisite sweeping views across scenic Souda Bay to the majestic White Mountains in the South. You will not find a finer location on this coastline, and despite the countrified setting above the sea, a 12 minute stroll brings you to the tavernas and cafes on the quaint village square in Plaka where you can pick up your groceries at the well stocked mini markets, while away the hours sipping Greek coffee, cocktails or cold beer, or enjoy a mouth-watering meal at one of the excellent tavernas or the Italian restaurant. A short 4 minute drive will take you down to Almyrida which has a good selection of shops, cafes and tavernas which line the family friendly sandy beach that shelves gently into the crystal clear turquoise sea.

As befits such a splendid location Villa Alexandra's owners have created a gorgeous home that is modern, bright and airy, incredibly spacious and ideal for relaxed summer and off-season living. The layout of the property incorporates a main villa with 3 bedrooms and an independently accessed pool house with a 4th bedroom and a 5th sleeping area, making it ideal for large families or groups who like to holiday whilst still having the option of privacy. Our low and mid season prices, when the villa can be rented without the pool house (which would be locked) but with full access to all of the facilities, also make this gorgeous property accessible to couples and small families who want to treat themselves to a very special holiday.

The design of the both the villa and pool house has been carefully considered in order to bring your living area into the outdoors. Wall to wall glass sliding doors that showcase the magnificent sea views, and tasteful furnishings and fabrics in the traditional Greek colours of blue and white and complementary earth tones, combine together to create such a calming ambience that you unwind as soon as you walk through the front door.

Your comfort is assured with every possible modern convenience having been provided for at Villa Alexandria, which is truly the recipe for a very lazy holiday!  The villa is equipped with a high definition TV, satellite TV, a DVD player, Free unlimited WIFI access, a fully fitted kitchen which includes a ceramic hob, a built-in oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, and kettle. There is also  a washing machine, iron and ironing board, white aluminium doors, windows and electric shutters, electric gates and private parking. The water is heated by either solar panel or a back-up immersion heater. Every room in the villa has under floor cooling, the bedrooms and the living room in the villa and both rooms in the pool house and villa have independent air-conditioning.  The A/C units double up as heaters, and for the cooler nights early and late season there is also under floor heating and a feature fireplace in the villa. For entertainment purposes and for “children” both young and old there is a games room in the lower level with table tennis, and table football.

The sleeping accommodation has been equally well thought-out. All of the bedrooms have en suite facilities and direct access onto the outside terraces, and from 4 of the bedrooms you can lie in bed and gaze out to the sparkling azure sea. Romantic couples will particularly appreciate the principal bedroom and en-suite bathroom which take up the entire top floor of the main villa and even have their own sun terrace with expansive views over the entire area. The 4th bedroom and en-suite bathroom are in the pool house, and the 5th sleeping area/kitchenette (also in the pool house) comprises of a living/sleeping area with a fold-out couch, a z-bed, a kitchenette (which can be screened off by sliding wooden screen doors) and an en suite shower room. The pool house may be particularly suited to teenagers who like to be part of the family holiday whist being able to retain their independence and come and go without disturbing their parents.

The attractive grounds and many outside terraces take full advantage of the commanding views and are often blessed by a cooling offshore breeze. Dominating this little oasis is the 10m long infinity pool with its cooling waters that sparkle invitingly and appear to merge seamlessly into the aquamarine sea in the foreground of the view. With a choice of sun on the pool terrace or shade under the olive trees, there are many perfect spots where you can lie back and read a good book or simply enjoy the captivating views with a glass of something chilled from a local winery. In the early evening when your appetite has been stimulated by the hot sun and sea air, adults can grill a delicious meal of freshly caught fish on the barbeque. There could perhaps be nothing more idyllic than eating al-fresco as the sun goes down and the picturesque bay, coastline and mountains are bathed with pink, crimson and gold hues.

It is very rare to find a pool on Crete that has any form of heating which is a huge plus at the start and end of the season when the pools can be cold. The swimming pool at Villa Alexandria has a heating source from environmentally friendly solar panels and is therefore more suited for swimming later and earlier in the season (although the actual temperature is dependent upon the amount of sun each day and it is not comparable to heating via a heat pump). There is a shower on the pool terrace, and excellent underwater lighting that is programmed to come on and off automatically, that lights the pool up beautifully at night.

With such good facilities and views for as far as the eye can see, you could be forgiven for never wanting to leave Villa Alexandria, but for those who like to walk there is a choice of interesting trails through the surrounding olive groves. For example the village and tavernas can be easily reached whilst a track brings you to the some fascinating rock formations which have been shaped over time by the sea, the salt flats where rock salt dries out naturally in the sun, and small rocky coves.

In summation it has to be said that Villa Alexandria is a completely enchanting villa that is ideal for the uncompromising holidaymaker who expects luxury, comfort and outstanding views, just a short distance on foot or by car to a variety of tavernas, shops, sandy beaches and water sports.

Villa Location

The main square in Plaka is only 700m from Villa Alexandria and is still very much the focal point of village life. There are lovely shady mulberry trees under which the locals sit to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious meal or even just an ice cold frappe. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading off from the square. The modern outskirts of the village have expanded recently as have the facilities, which now include 6 tavernas, an excellent Italian restaurant, 2 well stocked mini markets,  a shop with local products, and 6 cafes. The lovely village of Almyrida is only 1.8km from Villa Alexandria, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 12 excellent tavernas, 6 cafés, 1 bar, 1 bakery, a wonderful jewellery shop, 4 mini-markets, 8 gift shops, a pharmacy, a butcher's shop, a wonderful fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, an off-license,a nail spa, 1 Italian ice cream shop, 4 real estate offices, and a kiosk. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, a scuba diving office, and pedalo and paddle board rentals. Other activities in the area include boat trips, private boat hire, big game fishing, water skiing, horse riding, private astronomy night at your villa, private sight seeing flights in a light aircraft, and guided walking tours and coach excursions.  A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio,  and a folklore museum in Gavalohori. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.

*** As of January 01, 2024, the Greek government have replaced the old “bed tax” with a new tax that is applied to all stays in short-term rental accommodation in Greece. The Climate Resilience Levy is a response to the devastating forest fires and floods that Greece has experienced in recent years, with the government hoping to generate extra funding that will go towards financing reconstruction, supporting victims, and increasing the country’s defences against future natural disasters.

The owners of all short-term rental accommodation are legally obliged to collect the Climate Resilience Levy as a separate tax for all overnight stays (per villa) as follows:
€10.00 per night on stays between March 01 and October 31, and €4.00 per night on stays between November 01 and February 28/29.

We will collect the Climate Levy with your final balance payment and it will be clearly itemised on your Booking Confirmation.

Whilst we understand the potential budget concerns of our guests, this tax/levy is beyond our control and we encourage our guests to see this as a way of contributing to the protection of the planet and the beautiful area where they are holidaying.
