Villa Lemonia is situated on a hillside in the quaint hamlet of Kambia with one of the best vantage points we have come across, overlooking the entire area. The main living area, the bedrooms, and the pool terrace with its lovely infinity pool, all enjoy the sweeping views of Souda Bay to the Akrotiri Peninsula and the Turkish fort at Aptera in the north and west, and across the valley and acres of olive groves below the villa all the way to the breathtaking White Mountains in the south. Fitted and furnished to meet high expectations of modern standards, Villa Lemonia combines elegant comfort with spectacular views, and with just 2 occasionally occupied neighbouring villas it has a peaceful rural feel.

Very unusually for Crete, for the times at the start and end of the season when the pools can be decidedly chilly, the pool at Villa Lemonia can be heated to a minimum of 26 degrees centigrade, except first thing in the morning, at night, and if the weather is unseasonably cold, windy, and/or rainy.  Pool heating is included in the rental prices at all times except July and August.

As the name would suggest, the exterior of Villa Lemonia has been painted a fresh lemon colour with white accents such as the aluminium doors, windows and shutters, and the attractive traditional white columns on the semi-covered front dining and lounging terrace. The land drops away below the villa which allows for an exceptional setting for the entire property but especially for the infinity pool and outside terraces. The pool terrace has been furnished with sun-beds and umbrellas, and there is a traditional stone and brick barbeque and bread/pizza oven which are ideal for preparing fresh and delicious food to eat al-fresco on the adjacent fully furnished dining terrace. The first floor shared front terrace/balcony which leads out from the bedrooms is equipped with couches, tables, chairs, and a sail sunshade outside the triple bedroom. The master double bedroom also has its own private terrace with a pergola with a canopy, sun loungers, and couches, which is perfect for guests requiring that extra bit of privacy from the rest of the family! Whichever terrace you choose to relax on you are sure to be spellbound by the panoramic vistas and magical sunsets.

The interior of Villa Lemonia is just as lovely as the outside surroundings. Every effort has been made by the artistic English owners to ensure that you have a calming and comfortable holiday. The high beamed wood ceilings in the bedrooms and the many windows and double doors throughout the villa create a bright and airy atmosphere. The furnishings in the villa are particularly attractive as are the fully tiled main bathroom and downstairs shower room. The beautiful upstairs master double bedroom has a romantic white metal bed with a canopy/mosquito net that is decorated with a garland of flowers, and high quality sea green and pale gold bedding. The views over the surrounding area can even be enjoyed whilst lying in this pretty bed. The triple bedroom has a set of bunk beds and 1 single bed which are made from natural pine that matches the high beamed ceilings. In keeping with the rest of the villa's interiors the downstairs bedroom is very stylish and has furniture and bedding in chic champagne and silver grey tones. The many modern comforts include a fully fitted, very well equipped kitchen which has matching stainless steel appliances such as: a ceramic hob, a built-in oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, and a washing machine; satellite TV, a DVD player, and a WIFI hub in the lounge for Free unlimited internet access; mosquito screens, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms and living room. The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season and there is a wood burning stove in the lounge (wood is not included in the rental price). The water is heated either by solar panel or a back-up immersion heater.

The majority of the plot has been left completely natural with rocks, carob trees and wild almond trees, whereas immediately surrounding the villa there are terraces that have been sympathetically landscaped with gravelled areas and flowerbeds of lavendar, daisies, huge palms, yukkas, lush “Hottentot fig” mesembryanthum, and other typically Mediterranean flora. To the rear of the villa there is a traditional stone wall and a private parking area which is in the shade for much of the day making it the perfect spot for keeping the car cool. This glorious countrified location belies the fact that Villa Lemonia is only 1.1 – 1.2kms from the 2 tavernas and mini market in the centre of Kokkino Horio, 1.8kms from the excellent tavernas and shops on Plaka square, and 3kms from the sandy beaches and many amenities in Almyrida.

Villa Location

The excellent organic taverna at the famous glass blowing workshop in Kokkino Horio is only 1.1km from Villa Lemonia and has sea and mountain views. During the day you can watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls. 100m further into Kokkino Horio is the family-run taverna on the main square that is shaded by weeping willow trees, has good food, and during the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna, which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. Plaka Square is just 1.8km away and has 7 tavernas, 6 cafes, 2 well stocked mini markets, 1 shop with local products, a hardware and crafts shop, and 2 real estate agencies. 8 minutes away by car is the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. There is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, a scuba diving centre, and paddle board and pedalo rentals. Other activities in the area include private boat hire, boat trips, horse riding, big game fishing, private astronomy nights at your villa,  private sightseeing tours in a light aircraft, and guided walking tours and coach excursions. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 40 minutes away by car.
