If you have ever wanted to spend long, leisurely days under the warm Cretan sun, floating in your own private pool whilst admiring sweeping panoramic sea and mountain views, but didn’t think that you could afford it, then the exceptionally competitive prices at Villa Anesa could change that and make your dreams come true.

Nestled on a terraced hillside on the outskirts of Kokkino Horio village, Villa Anesa is within walking distance of 2 tavernas and a well stocked mini market, and just a short drive to a small cove and sea caves known mostly by locals, or the shops, and tavernas in the popular village of Plaka, and the sandy beaches and small fishing harbour in Almyrida. In addition to a convenient location and budget prices, Villa Anesa has the perfect aspect facing west and south which means that there is sun on the pool terrace for the majority of the day and the most spectacular sunsets – what more could you ask for!

Internally this recently renovated property is particularly pretty and has the fresh, welcoming feel of a happy summer home. Decorated predominately in the Greek blue and white colour scheme, painted wooden planked ceilings run throughout the villa and match the hand painted furniture and kitchen cabinets. Unpretentious, comfortable, and well equipped, Villa Anesa has every modern amenity including Free WIFI, a TV with channels via the internet, air conditioning in the upstairs 2 bedrooms and living room,  a washing machine and dishwasher, white aluminium doors, windows, and shutters with mosquito screens on all the windows, and brand new fully tiled shower rooms. The upstairs bedrooms both benefit from having high chalet style ceilings and a set of double doors with direct access to the shaded front balcony which overlooks the pool to the glittering, aquamarine sea, and the majestic White Mountains.

The downstairs bedroom is very compact but surprisingly adaptable, featuring an attractive white metal day bed with nautical cushions, which can convert from 1 or 2 single beds, into a double bed with a mattress topper. The bedroom door opens onto the rear courtyard which is equipped with a barbeque and a dining table and chairs, and is edged by a low wall with a raised flower bed, and tall yucca trees and oleander bushes which are usually resplendent with pink and white flowers. In addition to giving a good level of privacy from the occasionally used, next door holiday homes, these well established trees and shrubs create a quiet little haven which has sun in the morning but is cool and shady in the afternoon, making it the ideal spot for reading a good book or taking a siesta after a light lunch made from freshly picked, locally grown produce.

Last, but certainly not least, on the opposite side of Villa Anesa is the area which is bound to be the focal point of your holiday fun. The pool terrace is furnished with sun-beds, sun umbrellas, and another set of dining table and chairs. In between bouts of sunbathing you will relish cooling off in the crystal clear water of the delightful infinity style pool. With an eye-catching backdrop of sea, mountains, and the attractive coastline spreading out below, poolside living has never been more appealing. So much so that there may well be evenings when, rather than dining out, you will prefer to stay on the pool terrace and eat a delicious takeout meal from one of the area’s many excellent tavernas, as the sun sets over the sea and the bay turns into a myriad shades of intense red, gold, orange, and pink.

*** N.B. Because of its elevated location, to ensure the safety of younger family members, there are railings around the infinity pool, and on one side of the pool terrace there is a small gate at the top of a flight of 23 steps that lead down to the parking area and road. Villa Anesa was originally the centre 2 townhouses in a small row of 4. The current owners completely renovated and remodeled the 2 centre townhouses so that they now make one lovely house. The end townhouse to the left of the villa is a holiday home that is only occasionally used by a Polish couple who live in Switzerland, and the end townhouse to the right of the villa has the same owners as Villa Anesa.

Villa Location

The main taverna in Kokkino Horio and the mini market are only 600m from Villa Anesa. The family-run taverna is shaded by weeping willow trees, has delicious food, and very friendly owner, Yiannis. During the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna, which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. At the village kafenion you can find a few older locals who were used as extras in the film.  Also in Kokkino Horio is the famous glass blowing workshop and organic taverna. Here you can watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls. The coastline below Villa Anesa is famous for its sea caves, and it has Koutalas cove, which is a rocky inlet with a small shingle beach that is ideal for snorkelling. Plaka Square is just 1.3kms away and has 7 tavernas, 2 well stocked mini markets, a shop with local products, a real estate office, a cash machine, and 7 cafes. 6 minutes away by car is the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there is a scuba diving centre, pedalo and paddle board rentals, and a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car. We at Villa Crete Holidays will give you information for booking private boat rental, horse riding, big game fishing, private sightseeing flights, boat trips, and guided coach or walking tours.
