*** The accompanying photos of Villa Cassiopeia were taken in the winter before the grounds were fully finished. Since the photos were taken flowers, plants and bushes have been added, a sun shade , a coffee tables and chairs have been added to the paved circle etc.

Situated off a private, gated rural lane with access to only 3 villas, surrounded by a picturesque landscape of silvery green olive trees, and with breathtaking views to the sea, both of The Sunrise Villas, Villa Cassiopeia and Villa Ilios, are an excellent choice for individual guests who value their privacy, but also for larger groups and families who like to holiday together whilst having their own space to go to when required.

While The Sunrise Villas feel perfectly away from it all, enjoying a serene setting tucked away on the outskirts of the pretty village of Kefalas, they are actually an easy walk (750m) from the two tavernas and mini markets on the traditional village square. Just a 10 minute drive to Ombrogialos Cove which is famed for its brilliantly clear and vivid turquoise water that is ideal for snorkelling, and the wonderful taverna on the rocks surrounding the cove. The villas are also only 15 – 20 minutes by car from the prettiest stretches of coastline, some of the best sandy beaches in Crete, and the excellent tavernas and amenities found in the villages of Almyrida to the west, or Georgioupolis to the east.

Villa Cassiopeia is the much loved second residence of an electrical engineer and his artistic wife who like to escape from the harsh winters in their home country of Finland. Therefore, it is incredibly well equipped with every possible modern convenience including free WIFI, a smart TV with Google Chromecast, a portable bluetooth speaker, air conditioning throughout, mosquito screens on the doors and windows, and in an effort to help the environment, 70% of the villa's electricity is powered by solar panels, as is the hot water. Very comfortable furniture, a gorgeous kitchen, beautiful bathrooms, and tasteful decor, all in a fashionable palette of soft grey tones, create a soothing ambience. The living room area and all 3 bedrooms offer direct access onto an array of balconies and outside terraces which give you the choice of sun or shade.

The large pool terrace is paved with pretty, non-slip silver grey stone, at the heart of which is the inviting 32m2 pool that is flanked by relaxing sun-loungers and umbrellas. Guests will find that swimming in the cooling pool waters during the long hot summer days is positively therapeutic! Adjacent to the pool is a built-in barbeque, a dining table, and 6 chairs that sit under a pergola to provide respite from the sun, but not the view, making it an inviting spot for grilling mouthwatering local produce, and for open air dining.

At the start of the day, mesmerising sunrises can be seen from Villa Cassiopeia, which sits high above the sea with dramatic views of Georgioupolis Bay, all the way to Rethymnon and the Psiloritis Mountain Range in the east, and to Cape Drapanos in the north. Whilst at the close of the day, after enjoying a delectable meal and maybe a glass or two of local wine at one of the village tavernas, we can’t think of a better way of ending the evening than strolling back to the villa to watch the stars from one of the many terraces. Afterall, the villa is named after the large Cassiopeia constellation of stars that is in the shape of a “W”, and is part of the Perseus group of constellations that can be seen overhead. The Perseids meteor shower is the most spectacular summer display of shooting stars because of their brightness and speed. Visible every year from approximately mid July to mid/late August, it is definitely worth staying up for. It is customary to make a wish when you see a shooting star, and we are certain that one of your wishes will be to return to Villa Cassiopeia year after year.

Villa Location

Kefalas is regarded as one of the most beautiful villages in the region. The centre of this traditional village is only a short walk from Villa Ilios through narrow, winding, bougainvillea lined streets. The village has 4 tavernas and 2 well stocked mini markets. There are eight churches in Kefalas, some of which are historic, and the villagers celebrate with a feast day on August the 15th. On the outskirts of the village towards Drapanos there is the ruin of an ancient windmill, and you will also see many old corn threshing circles dotted around the area. Villa Ilios is just 10 minutes by car to the gorgeous rocky cove at Ombrosgialos, which is famous for its turquoise water, great snorkelling, and lovely taverna nestled on the rocks. The village of Vamos which has a bank, shops, 4 tavernas, cafes, and 2 petrol stations, is only 5kms away, and the lovely village of Almyrida, which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach, is only 8kms away. This beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers, catamarans, pedaloes, and paddle boards. We at Villas Crete Holidays will give you the contact details for many activity providers including those for: private boat hire, private boat trips, private sight-seeing flights, horse riding, big game fishing, guided walking, and guided coach excursions. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car.

Villa Rental Prices

The following introductory prices are shown EUROS, per WEEK, and are for the Villa with a maximum of 6  persons

These prices include a Free Welcome Pack, Bed Linen and Towels, Maid Service, and a villa copy of the essential guide book "Crete on the Road" by Frankie Miles.

*** As of January 01, 2024, the Greek government have replaced the old “bed tax” with a new tax that is applied to all stays in short-term rental accommodation in Greece. The Climate Resilience Levy is a response to the devastating forest fires and floods that Greece has experienced in recent years, with the government hoping to generate extra funding that will go towards financing reconstruction, supporting victims, and increasing the country’s defences against future natural disasters.

The owners of all short-term rental accommodation are legally obliged to collect the Climate Resilience Levy as a separate tax for all overnight stays (per villa) as follows:
€10.00 per night on stays between March 01 and October 31, and €4.00 per night on stays between November 01 and February 28/29.

We will collect the Climate Levy with your final balance payment and it will be clearly itemised on your Booking Confirmation.

Whilst we understand the potential budget concerns of our guests, this tax/levy is beyond our control and we encourage our guests to see this as a way of contributing to the protection of the planet and the beautiful area where they are holidaying.
